November 2016

the church elders hosted a dinner for the Rainbow Connection childcare centre staff, partners and trustees. It was great to get to know one another better in an informal setting. A good time was had by all.

Rainbow Connection began as a crèche attached to our mothers’ craft group in the eighties. As we grew, became licensed with the Ministry of Education as a Childcare Centre, built new buildings, and developed a high standard of professionalism, we have become an important part of the lives of generations. The original Rainbow children are now sending their children along to enjoy all the benefits of Early Childhood education with friendly, caring, and competent staff.

In 2007 we purchased the house next door to Rainbow, put a door through the wall, and created a separate Under 2 unit with their own playground.

Rainbow Connection is licensed for 50 children with a maximum of 12 under 2’s.  The centre is run by dedicated staff qualified in Early Childhood Education.

Rainbow Connection is situated in Service Lane 7, behind the church. Access to the service lane is off Mary Street, next to the church, or Mackay Street, opposite the Hospital entrance. There is parking next to the centre.

Rainbow Connection Childcare

The Rainbow Connection is governed by a trust, chaired by a church member, and includes a parent representative.  The trust and the staff work closely together to make sure that children and their families get the best possible service.

The  Centre Philosophy is:
The management and staff at ‘Rainbow Connection Childcare strive to provide a safe and nurturing environment for the care and education of children 0-6 years. We believe children’s learning and development is enhanced through play. We understand that real life and genuine learning opportunities that follow their interests and an environment that is rich in language support a child’s curiosity and imagination, empowering them to investigate, discover and create.

We aim to extend the learning and development of each child in a safe and relaxed atmosphere, integrating family and Christian values. We acknowledge that parents/whānau are the primary caregivers of their children and we encourage parent/teacher relationships so we can support them in their role.

We work at a high teacher/child ratio which we believe is vital in providing quality care and education.

We are committed to Te Whaariki (Early Childhood Curriculum) which fosters social, physical, emotional, spiritual and intellectual growth in all children. Te Whaariki reflects the partnership of Te Tiriti o Waitangi/Treaty of Waitangi. We respect all cultures and make provisions for individual differences in children and their families, providing an inclusive environment for all.
